Dr. Jay Singh
Dr. Singh was raised in Augusta, GA but attended college here in Atlanta at Emory University. He graduated with honors in 1986 and stayed in Atlanta to attend the Emory University School of Medicine to which he had gained entry two years earlier as part of a Sophomore Acceptance program. After completing his M.D. in 1990, he moved to Dallas, Texas to start a surgical residency at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center and Parkland Memorial Hospital. Seven years were spent in Dallas with 2 of those years consumed in research sponsored by the National Institutes of Health in the study of colon cancer genetics. In 1997, he moved to South Florida where he finished an additional fellowship in Colon and Rectal Surgery at the Cleveland Clinic, Florida. He stayed there an additional 2 years as clinical staff before moving back to Atlanta to join Dr. Adel Bagh to form Piedmont Colorectal Associates and practice here at Piedmont Hospital.
Currently, he serves in the position as co-director of the surgical residency at Piedmont Hospital and has 2 academic positions including an associate professorship with the Emory University School of Medicine and adjunct clinical faculty for the Mercer University School of Medicine. He has served on the Piedmont Hospital Board as Chairman of Clinical Quality and he currently sits on the Piedmont Healthcare Board serving on both the Quality and Executive subcommittees.
Dr. Singh is board-certified in both general surgery and colon and rectal surgery but has limited his practice to the arena of colon and rectal surgery. He sees a broad range of office-based problems such as fissures, fistulas, and hemorrhoids. He strongly believes in minimally invasive techniques for hemorrhoid therapy in order to enhance patient recovery. He has also been deeply involved in advancing minimally invasive colon surgery employing laparoscopic, endocscopic, microsurgical, and now even robotic techniques for the treatment of diverticular disease, inflammatory bowel disease, and colorectal cancers.
